Every year, National Engineers Week (EWeek) [Now known as DiscoverE] is held on the third week of February. EWeek is observed by more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies. The purpose is to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make and to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills. The celebration of EWeek was started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in conjunction with President George Washington’s Birthday. President Washington is considered as the nation’s first engineer, notably for his survey work.

Each year one of the member technical societies hosts the event. In 2014, the Huntsville Section of IEEE is proud to announce hosting the 2014 EWeek banquet. The 2014 EWeek banquet for the Huntsville, Alabama area is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2014 in the Jackson Center, Huntsville, Alabama.
