About the Student Branch

A new IEEE student community on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The IEEE Student Branch at MSU–Jackson County Campus is the newest student branch in the IEEE Mississippi Section. Its first joint meeting with the Section was held on May 14, 2026, at the campus in Gautier.

The branch gives Mississippi State electrical engineering students at the Jackson County location a direct connection to IEEE technical resources, professional programs, Section meetings, and the broader engineering community.

Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models

Dr. Kollin Napier, Director of the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network, presented an overview of artificial intelligence and large language models. The program covered transformer architectures, embeddings, inference, retrieval-augmented generation, multimodal AI, prompting, hallucinations, cybersecurity, privacy, responsible implementation, and workforce implications.

The meeting brought together professionals, faculty, and students for technical learning and networking. One professional development hour was provided for attendance.
