IEEE WNC Section is sponsoring a Robot Face-Off pre-competition between UNC-A and WCU this year, 30 days before the actual competition at IEEE Region 3's SouthEastCon 2023 in Orlando Florida. This will afford the Student Sections the chance to finalize their designs and compete against a real opponent before setting off to Orlando to gain fame and glory for WNC and their schools in the official competition. Competition Theme: Orlando has been hit by a hurricane. The hurricane has left some damage and stranded animals at the IEEE theme park Duck Gardens. IEEE Region 3 is working to fix the damage, save the animals, and re-open the magic of Orlando. There is a lot of work that is time-consuming, and guests are waiting to drive and fly to Orlando. We need autonomous robots that can help animals, clean up debris, and rebuild Orlando. Luckily, IEEE is rolling into town for an annual conference. IEEE Student Teams are bringing their CAT5 Recovery Robots to recover Duck Gardens Orlando. Their robots will have several tasks to pick from to help rebuild the magic. The robots may do them all or as few as they would like to. Scoring Values Points Task 2 Placing a duck, food chip, or pedestal in the recycling attraction 7 Each correct food chip fed to the manatees 7 Each correct food chip fed to the alligators 3 Each incorrect food chip fed to the manatees 3 Each incorrect food chip fed to the alligators 5 Each duck in the pond 10 Start the fireworks 10 Auto-start feature used and successful Participate: Please join us in-person or on-line as we will livestream this event from the WCU venue. Cheer for your preferred team and wish all the students luck as we send them off to Duck Gardens theme park in 30 days! In-person venue is located at WCU College of Engineering. https://www.wcu.edu/learn/departments-schools-colleges/cet/about/departments/engineering-technology.aspx Co-sponsored by: IEEE WCU Student Chapter - https://paws.wcu.edu/radams/IEEE/IEEE.html and IEEE UNC Asheville Student Chapter - https://www.facebook.com/IeeeUncAshevilleStudentBranch/ Room: CAT 110, Bldg: Center for Advanced Technology, WCU Engineering , 209 Centennial Drive, Cullowhee, NC , North Carolina, United States, 28723, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/337028 |

Interest in reverberation chambers has grown in the last 15 years, almost in step with the increasing complexity and, in some cases, vulnerability of electronic systems. The severity of this test environment, especially for immunity testing, is due to the inherent attributes of a well-designed chamber. There are many parameters that can be optimized to suit the type of testing to be done, ranging from the traditional EMC tests to the more recently developed sensitivity and radiated power tests performed on wireless communication devices. Mr. D’Abreu discusses the important aspects of the design, validation, and testing of reverb chambers, including a look at some of the pitfalls, while drawing on his years of experience in designing chamber installations for EMC and wireless applications. Speaker(s): Garth D'Abreu, Agenda: 5:30-6:00 Gaterhing and light refreshments 6:00-8:00 Meeting and discussion Schneider Electric, 1101 Shiloh Glenn Dr., #100, Morrisville, North Carolina, United States, 27560 |
