Your local IEEE PES IAS society is hosting a tour of the Polk Power Station Mulberry, Florida. Polk Power Station Unit 1 is a state-of-the-art integrated coal gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) power plant. The 260-megawatt IGCC facility began commercial operation in the fall of 1996. Currently construction is underway on Unit 2 which will consist of 4 combustion turbine generators fitted with heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) that will feed one Steam Turbine unit. Polk Power Station is located on State Road 37, just north of the SR674 & SR37 intersection.

IMPORTANT – Please sign up on the website listed above so the station will have advanced notice of members attending tour. When arriving at site, please check in with security at the main gate on Hwy 37. Please have Government issued photo identification such
as a driver’s license with you for entry to facility. Also, attendeesstrong>must wear long pants (no shorts, dresses or skirts) and must wearclosed toed shoes (no open sandals, flip-flops, or high heeledshoes). You will be provided PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses and ear plugs at the facility (if you have your own hard hat and safety glasses, you are welcome to bring with you.)
