About 472 jobs were added representing a growth of 27%, compared to the state’s job growth of 35% in technology. There were 600 payrolled business locations in the 18-county region during 2022 with an average annual wage for technology jobs of $90,280. Buncombe County led the region in technology with 891 jobs in 2022. Macon County technology businesses supported 705 jobs in technology. The overall concentration of technology jobs in the Western North Carolina region was about 63% less than the national average. Watauga County businesses support about 247 technology jobs.
