Photonic Chips are Revolutionizing Data-Heavy Technologies.

A compact silicon semiconductor chip that integrates electronics with photonic, or light, components has been invented by researchers at the University of Sydney Nano Institute. This new technology expands radio-frequency (RF) bandwidth and improves the ability to accurately control information flow. The chip is built using silicon photonics, an emerging technology that allows the integration of diverse systems on semiconductors less than 5 mm wide.
