Keanu Jonas "KJ" Ammons
Vice Chair
Keanu Ammons is a nuclear regulatory commission (NRC) scholar, Brinson Honors college researcher, mathematics tutor, and Vice Chair of the IEEE student branch. He is a passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated electric power engineer with plans to pursue graduate school in nuclear engineering. Keanu has worked as an intern for Idaho National Laboratory and Los Alamos National laboratory in the field of computational nuclear research; his research specialized in scalable ray-tracing modules and spent nuclear fuel remediation. Keanu’s computer experience includes C/C++ programming with message passing interface, Python, Tensorflow, Keras, Arduino, Eagle CAD, Power World, and Gaussian. Outside of research, he enjoys spending time with family, writing short stories, and community service.

Bachelor of Science – Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology student.  Capstone Project – Incorporate accelerometer and sensors in an electronic product.  The goal is to implement the application in new products.  I enjoy the blend of hardware and software aspects in microcontrollers.

I have a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Emergency and Disaster Management. Course Tutor for ~2 years tutoring a total of 5 different courses. IT Student Support Technician/Agent for 7 months at WCU. Hobbies – I love hiking and traveling to different national and state parks across the country. I’ve also had a love of music since I was very young and enjoy playing drums/percussion, guitar, and dabbling with DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) such as Ableton Live.
