"Capacitive Touch Design for Commodity Applications: Replace That Old Mechanical Switch!" Topics to be covered include: 1. Design related topics such as: how such a device operates, and the components that make up a capacitive touch system. 2. User feedback, highlighting how simple things like driving multiple LEDs off of an unregulated supply, or leaving LED traces floating could negative effect system performance. 3. System level testing to pass IEC 61000 series testing. Problems related to obtaining the coveted CE mark are centered on conducted susceptibility, or how the sensor interface reacts when introducing noise to the system. 4. A Design checklist. Speaker(s): Chris Semanson, Agenda: Food and networking at 5:30, general chapter business at 6, talk beginning around 6:30, followed by discussion. Location: Bldg: UL University 12 Laboratory Drive Research Triangle Park, North Carolina 27709

We are excited to have Dr. Helen Li from Florida State University to give us a technical lecture on modulation and control strategies for DC/DC converter in MVDC systems. Presentation Title: Modulation, Control and Fault Protection of Current-fed Modular Bidirectional DC-DC Converter for Shipboard MVDC System Abstract: Current-fed bidirectional dc-dc converters have gained increasing popularity in a shipboard MVDC system due to their superior current control and fault performance. This presentation will introduce different modulation methods of current-fed modular bidirectional converters applied in a shipboard MVDC system. The corresponding dynamic models as well as control system development for each modulation method will be presented and compared. Finally, the fault ride through operation of this type of converter will be also introduced. Speaker(s): Dr. Helen Li, Agenda: 6:00 - 6:30 PM Food and networking 6:30 - 7:30 PM Lecture 7:30 - 8:00 PM Q&A Location: Room: 1005 Bldg: EB1 911 Partners Way Raleigh, North Carolina 27606 |

NOTE: BUILDING/ROOM CHANGE FOR OUR IEEE R&A MONTHLY TECHNICAL MEETING NOVEMBER 4TH - NCSU EB3 Room 2207 !! Frank Agius, Principal Engineer from iRobot will present a session about STEM motivational projects related to iRobot Create 2 product with API walkthrough and hands on demo for a selective subset of projects. iRobot Create2 is a perfect smart home STEM motivational product for hobbyists to get started to hack for a creative set of mechatronics Roombot projects, right from the school students to senior professionals. Create 2 kit seems to provide integration API including those with minimum amount of Python code. iRobot Create 2 seems to easily integrate with Raspberry Pi and different cameras including 3D Primesense with which it appears to be possible to develop a basic level indoor autonomous navigational Roombot by the hobbyists when combined with extra video processing compute power. The ability of Roombots to communicate with each other and get back to the charging station is very creative. There appears many iRobot Create 2 projects in github(link below). # Python curriculum for Middle school# Camera Bot# Create 2 with PrimeSense# Light Conservation Robot# Hatching Eggs with Create 2# Intergalactic Symphony# Make your own Roombot# DJ Create# DJ Turntable# Raspberry PI Camera with Web Interface# Light Painting# DART collector# Create 2 Path Finder# Python API for the Create 2# TeleRoomba with VR Headset# Tethered Driving# Python Tethered Driving# Create 2 Drive and Stream# CLI Dashboard for iRobot Create 2# MATLAB Toolbox for the iRobot Create 2# Python implementation of the Create 2 Open Interface# Controlling Roomba Over Wifi# STEM Curriculum for the iRobot Create2# Craebot - ZCM Driver for Create 2 More details about iRobot Create 2 projects can be obtained from link below: https://www.irobot.com/about-irobot/stem/create-2/projects Speaker Info: Frank Agius works as Principal Engineer at iRobot. Frank holds an Electrical Engineering degree from Manhattan college, NY. Frank has extensive embedded development design experiences in numerous firms including IBM, Ericsson, Garmin and iRobot with exceptional expertise in boot code, Linux kernel and control software for autonomous robotic systems. Frank is an active volunteer for several years together as a coordinator of Habitat for Humanity and a coach for NC Science Olympiad. Abstract: Automotive industry has entered the fast lane of innovations with many disruptive technologies that shape the future of vehicles. Electrification pushes the evolution of powertrain from traditional internal combustion engines to hybrid and electric engines for more energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction. Autonomous driving demands the rapid advances of sensor technology, machine learning algorithms, and highly efficient computation platforms. Digitization and connectivity are creating a new automotive ecosystem that makes modern vehicles active and essential information providers and consumers in a connected world. Although new technologies will lead to many business opportunities that the automotive industry has long been waiting for, they are disruptive and challenging even for the most established automotive companies. This presentation will discuss the technical challenges and the latest evolution and development of automotive EE (Electrical/Electronic) architecture. Speaker: George Huan has over 20 years engineering and product development experience at many technology companies. He is currently the principal systems architect of Karma Automotive, where he leads the EE architecture research and development of Infotainment and Connected Cars organization for Karma’s luxury electric vehicle product lines. George is volunteering at IEEE Eastern Carolina Section as a chapter chair for Signal Processing. Speaker(s): George Huan, Agenda: 18:30 - 19:00 Networking with pizza and soda 19:00 – 19:10 Chapter meeting and announcements 19:10 - 20:00 Presentation 20:00 - 20:30 Q&A and more networking Location: Room: 1005 Bldg: NCSU Engineering Building 1 (EB1) 911 Partners Way Raleigh, North Carolina 27606 |
