New Career Field – The Creative Technologist
If you missed Makerfest 2015, you really missed something! You’ll have to wait another year to see something like this. One awareness that came out of this event is the position of ‘Creative Technologist’ at The Martin Agency (they have three). A copy of a follow-up email from Corey Lane reveals a possible career opportunity for the more creative within our ranks:
Hello Steve,
It was great to meet you at RVA MakerFest this past weekend!
Following up on our impromptu conversation, I think it would be great to get to know IEEE better. Particularly as it relates to Martin, I think you might be interested in meeting our creative technologists as an example of the kind of nontraditional career paths that STEM can open up. Here’s a short vignette we did last year that introduces you to two of our three technologists and gives you a glimpse at some of their projects: https://youtu.be/dBTCAZqES6s
I will also keep an eye on how the SECON conference is coming together for March. I think you could do a powerful program around the maker movement in the Commonwealth. After all, technologists and engineers are the today’s rock stars! It would be great to facilitate a workshop or conversation around how to productively bridge the “professional/hobbyist” divide in engineering and technology.
Look forward to hearing from you about partnership opportunities!
Best,
Corey
