The Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Baltimore-Washington Sections of the Society of Women Engineers has invited the IEEE Richmond Section to join it on a boat tour to the two pilot turbines of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project. These are the first two of 176 turbines that are to be installed 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. When it is completed, the 2.6 GW wind farm will generate enough electricity to power up to 660,000 households. Although this trip is not sponsored by Dominion Energy, there will be Dominion Energy engineers onboard who will give a brief presentation on the project and answer questions. Ticket sales are being handled through the Society of Women Engineers Eventbrite ticket website. The General Public ticket price is $110, but IEEE Richmond Section members and their families can get tickets for $60 (for the member) and $80 (for their family members) by using a special discount code.
