Greetings Region 3,

Welcome to September and Reflection Friday!  Labor Day weekend is often filled with backyard barbeques, parades, and trips to the pool, celebrating the unofficial end of summer. Let’s reflect on this Labor Day as we honor our working class, those that paved the way before us, and the labor movement that fuels our economy and country. Check out our Region 3 upcoming meetings.  Sections please post photos of your local live events on our social media platforms and the Region 3 website, located at:  https://r3.ieee.org/

Announcements:

IEEE Industry Relations Platform (IRP)

In 2021, a CRM-type platform for this reason (called IEEE Industry Relations Platform or IRP), funded by the IEEE New Initiatives Committee. This year, the plan is to get a group of users to pilot the IRP for various industry engagement activities and provide feedback to help us determine how useful/valuable a tool the IRP is. The type of volunteers we need are folks working in industry; have continuously engaged with industry for various reasons on behalf of the Section/Region; worked on or developed industry-relevant products, services and programs for IEEE; have one time or another held an IEEE industry volunteer position.

On behalf of Patrick Russoniello and Subodha Charles, they would greatly appreciate it if you could share this invite and/or recommend volunteers within Region 3 to be a part of the pilot user group this year. We would benefit greatly from your/their expertise and guidance as we build out the platform. They estimated only 8 hours of time for the whole pilot experience. Below are three main expectations during the pilot process:

  1. Review the user resource guide and videos to understand the IRP capabilities
  2. Add information from your current industry engagement activities and projects related to your Section/Region
  3. Fill out a survey to give feedback about your experience

The target is to get 100 users for the pilot this year and appreciate your support. For more information, contact s.charles@ieee.org and p.russoniello@ieee.org

In preparation, we are reaching out across the SouthEast Region asking for support. We are looking for feedback on our Hackathon idea and for members in industry to act as Virtual Technical Mentors to provide short 20-30 minute demonstrations and working examples for senior design / capstone students and hackathon participants.

IEEE Day, Join the celebration around the world!

Every year, IEEE members from IEEE Sections, Student Branches, Affinity groups, and Society Chapters join hands to celebrate IEEE Day. Events happen both virtually and in person. IEEE Day celebrates the first time in history when engineers worldwide gathered to share their technical ideas in 1884. Click on the link above to see what’s happening near you. IEEE Day’s theme is: “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. While the world benefits from what’s new, IEEE focuses on what’s next.

IEEE Day commemorates the anniversary of the first time when IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas, which took place in 1884. Worldwide celebrations demonstrate the ways thousands of IEEE members in local communities join together to collaborate on ideas that leverage technology for a better tomorrow.
