The 2023 Region 3 theme is: “Reinvigorating Our Volunteer Base”.  You can volunteer for small things that make a big impact! Volunteering offers flexibility within IEEE. Through this platform, IEEE members will be able to advertise and search for volunteering opportunities, be it short- or long-term, local or remote, or requiring different skills. All Week – April 2 – 8th, 2023 IEEE Education Week

IEEE Education Week, taking place 2-8 April 2023, is a celebration of the many ways that IEEE Volunteers and Members make an impact on education at every level around the globe. The Education Week website offers links to live and virtual events, educational resources, and special offers. During the week, IEEE Members will have the opportunity to earn participation points and a digital badge while experiencing the many educational offerings IEEE makes available; from continuing education, to university offerings for faculty and students, to STEM educational initiatives. IEEE President Saifur Rahman will also present a special virtual event to help kick off the week on Monday, 3 April 2023.

All IEEE-affiliated groups, including Sections, are invited to submit content to be featured on the Education Week website. Simply visit the website and click Submit on the top menu to get started. If you have specific questions, contact educationweek@ieee.org.

IEEE WIE Speaker Series – Smart Cities: Using Data and Innovation to Address Community Challenges,

The main goals of smart city initiatives are to improve quality of life, economic competitiveness, and sustainability, but achieving these goals poses many challenges, including the need to ensure that data-driven management systems that control and monitor the city’s operations are safe, secure, and reliable. This talk will introduce a data-driven management approach to support smart city services and discuss the necessity of interdisciplinary efforts for successful community-engaged smart city development. It will specifically highlight the applications of smart city technologies and data analytics in addressing critical community challenges such as food insecurity and opioid overdose crisis

2023 Asheville Maker Faire

The IEEE WNC Section has joined with Asheville Makers (https://asheville.makerfaire.com/) in sponsoring this years Maker Faire again and we have a great line-up of Makers this year; you can check them out on the website. We hope you will come join us on Saturday, 22 April 2023 to see what our annual support of this event has made possible. It should be a great day and with the new indoor venue at AB Tech, the event will go on rain or shine.
