Greetings R3 Members,

Hopefully, you all enjoyed your Labor Day holiday weekend.  We ate waaay too much barbeque at my family cookout! It’s the end of summer and we should start engaging with our local IEEE Sections, Young Professionals, and student chapters.  Networking opportunities for technology exchange meetups and plant tours are a few ideas that come to mind. Let us know what’s going on in your part of the region. Sections, please photos of your live and STEM events on our social media platforms and the Region 3 website, located at: https://r3.ieee.org/

IEEE ComSoc School Series Atlanta, Georgia: Next Generation Cloud Communications, In-Person Event

By: IEEE Communications Society, located at Georgia Tech Research Institute in Atlanta

This ComSoc School Series event will be focus on next generation cloud communications. Cloud communications empower nearly every aspect of engineering and technology. The modern generation of communication technology is increasingly relying on the use of cloud communication to improve performance metrics like spectral efficiency, reliability, and less processing time. Cloud communications is a telecommunications engineering field university students should be familiar with and excited about. This ComSoc School Series event will bring together scholars, local professionals, Distinguished Lectures (DLs), and students to learn, connect, and get inspired about the latest innovations in cloud communications. In this program, students will hear lectures from industry leaders in cloud communications, explore leading edge concepts, be exposed to the latest innovations in the industry, and will have the opportunity to network with professionals and peers in the field. In addition, hands-on tutorials may be incorporated into the program for students to have an interactive learning experience.

Academic Trajectory & Professional Performance: A Study of Peruvian Women of Information Technology,

By: Nadia Rodriguez-Rodriguez, PhD – Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Universidad de Lima Peru

In Peru, less than 1% of women graduate from Information Technology (IT) careers. Research shows that women’s participation in this field has continued to decline for the last 25 years. Women IT professionals have a particular profile characterized by superior academic performance and personality traits based on conscientiousness and emotional stability, important attributes to transit through academic environments where they represent a minority.
